HTC has its time excited with the one big splash – a very well-made smartphone, technically on the height and optical for many a treat. Featuring a 4.7-inch display, it is one of the smallest current high-end Androids, which is “small” relative here. No wonder that a demand for a smaller version of the phone is definitely there. With the HTC one mini one tries to meet this demand. In many cases, the hardware is so far but then slimmed down with the reduction that the device itself is visually similar to the great model. Whether HTC is the better managed and more importantly what the competition has to offer in the “mini” segment, we try to clarify.
The name “Mini” quite a bit confused here. Who really small smartphone is used, such as the Motorola Defy that time (3.7 inch to 10.7 x 5.9 x 1.3 cm) will wonder why the HTC one has ever deserved the Mini additional. After all, it is 13.2 x 6.3 x 0.9 cm at least in the area significantly wider and longer. This is of course also on the larger display – but who wants mini, must also make concessions. But even among the 4.3-inch devices are the Motorola Razr i and the Samsung Galaxy Mini S4 clearly smaller devices.
The highlength value is “boom sound” due mainly to the Mini radiating to the front stereo speakers, HTC’s much praised. Otherwise the hardware is rather average: 4.3-inch HD-ready display, the ultra-pixel camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC with 400 2×1, 4 GHz and 1 GB of memory form the base. Can stand out from the feature list above all the support LTE (tri) and the use of aluminum as the main material.
First look and build quality
processing is at a similar level as that of the HTC one – so here there’s hardly anything to complain about. The slightly modified appearance with the white plastic frame is certainly contentious flavorful, but could in the test due to the excellent design win also quite positive votes. The feel – and that is undisputed – is much better than the cheap plastic representatives with an aluminum unit. Of course under these high-quality materials and aluminum, has just in terms of scratch resistance and the “Anfass” temperature, also some disadvantages. But the first contact but often affects quality.
processor | 2x 1.4GHz (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) | display & resolution | 4.3-inch SLCD; 1280 x 720 px (341 ppi) | battery | 1800 mAh, permanently installed | camera (secondary) | 1.6 MP | camera (primary) | 4-MP, 1080p video, LED flash, “Ultra pixels” | int Memory | 16 GB, not expandable | Dimensions / Weight | 132.0 x 63.2 x 9.25 mm |
The overview of all the features found on the last page of the test report.
look around the unit makes the usual one-look shine on the front but also the back can delight. The Ultra pixel camera has been installed properly fitted and slightly recessed; fear of scratches on the lens you do not have here absolutely have. Also of high quality appeared to the side mounted microSIM slot. A point often slip up on the non-openable devices, including the HTC one mini one, with its 1800 mAh battery in the processing by improper fit. Another opening for a microSD card slot but then one has (now to be designated as minor) saved only 16 GB of internal memory in spite of.
Leaving to look further roam, there are only seeing “Familiar” on top of the 3.5 mm jack and the power button is placed, on the right side takes on the volume control a conglomerate of two individual buttons and the remaining bottom are microUSB port and a microphone located.
OverallHTC is definitely a repeat offender: An extremely well-made device using high-quality materials and a respectable appearance is good, but is not in any of the competitors standard. On this point, the mini has not hide from the big brother.
ergonomics
But even with the ergonomics it is – one could almost suspect after previous description – perfectly found on the front ranks. With 122 grams HTC One Mini is not one of the easiest devices, but it has been working with aluminum. Who here uses a plastic smartphone for comparison, the differences in density of the two materials should be aware of (density polycarbonate: about 1.2 g / cc; density aluminum: about 2.7 g / cc). In relation but again heard the One Mini with 1.58 g / cc then to the lighter equipment.
Due to the already mentioned boom sounds in the category HTC can display utilization of 60% does not really score. Here, everyone should verify its priorities – better sound or more compact housing. Conclusion in this area: the Mini One is good to use with one hand and (without question) a real flatterer. Compared to all the high-end devices that are currently on the market, the Mini looks quite compact despite its not very “mini” dimensions.
comparison with the HTC One
compared to the “right” one but then shows quite clearly that here again there are more visual than technical similarities. The display is – naturally in a smaller version – shrunk, as well as the resolution (more on that later). But the CPU has been slimmed down. The previously built Snapdragon 600 quad-core must give the 400 version, a dual-core, which also comes from the house of Qualcomm. The RAM was halved, trimmed the ultra pixel camera to the optical image stabilizer and robbed the front camera of their wide-angle function. NFC has been painted as well as the IR blaster. Even if the internal memory when one was also not expandable, so there was at least variants with 32 and 64 GB, the Mini One has to get by 16.
total remains the one in the mini version as so often only the exterior -. a comment on this practice we have also retained some pages later in this review

I see Apple with a rießigem lead. Have the SOC needs less power than any other, yet is fastest on the market. As you can see there really halt the 12 months or more will be invested in a device. Otherwise, it is probably not possible to build such a small device,
with so much power and still good battery life.
I claim Samsung, HTC, Sony and co. are currently not in a position, a high-end smartphone at <= 4 "to build. battery life and heat are simply too many problems. Is quite logical that one in a 5" large device much more space has to manage waste heat, and a incorporate much larger battery. The market for it is definitely there.

Well but it’s armseelig when the competition several models and sizes brings to the market and then alone of the software features provide more than a product which one times improves each year. ;)
