Anandtech benchmark cheating even with Asus, HTC and LG - Golem.de

Part of the smartphone industry clearly has no desire for fair play. As Anandtech has found cheating other providers in benchmarks on Android. Motorola, Google and Apple are among the few that are not noticed.

Anandtech goes with the manufacturers of smartphones harshly. With the exception of Apple and Motorola have all providers with whom Anandtech has worked in the past, cheated on at least one device in the CPU benchmarks and optimizes settings based on the recognized benchmarks. Especially now fall apart from Samsung, which is already noticed with the Galaxy S4 and recently the Galaxy Note 3, now Asus, HTC and LG are among the cheaters. However, Samsung is leader in the identification of appropriate benchmarks and optimization of CPU power.

With the current Samsung Galaxy Note 3 cheats equal to six benchmarks, as Anandtech found out. This also includes the renowned 3DMark. This is a significant increase compared with the Galaxy S4 that just makes three benchmarks useless. HTC recognizes at least four benchmarks with the HTC and the HTC One Mini One. Again, the 3DMark one of them. Asus (Padfone infinity) and LG (G2) recognize only two benchmarks, namely Antutu and Velamo, which also dominates the competition.

At least with the current Motorola / Google devices Anandtech has not seen any suspicious behavior. Apple also makes the results suggest that anything questionable. However, comparisons between Android and iOS are difficult. Not every benchmark is designed to operate cross-system tests. For other interested parties, according to Anandtech’s not worth the effort really. Between 0 and 5 percent of a device is faster. This may be sufficient if necessary to advance a few places in a benchmark list, but is ultimately negligible and not worth the potential negative press. Anandtech wants to hand steer try in the future. The plan is to use specially designated benchmarks. Often enough, a rename of the benchmarks to distort the simple recognition, but is not always. Ideally, Anand Lal Shimpi benchmarks wants that do not even have the manufacturer. The costs, however additional money.

The industry is already responding to the questionable behavior of smartphone manufacturers. Antutu example, has equipped its benchmark with a stealth mode. Appears particularly strange in the context of an initiative hardware manufacturers, to set a standard for testing of smart phones under the name Mobile Bench. The consortium is led by Broadcom, Huawei, OPPO, Spreadtrum and Samsung Electronics.
