Considering HTC smartphones with Android and Windows Phone? - Giga.de

HTC makes good

currently no press. Just today it was announced that the company has reported its first quarterly loss (minus 74 million euro) and a sales slump by a third compared to the previous year. The HTC one could not stop the decline. Perhaps devices with Android and Windows Phone is the solution?

HTC and Microsoft can look back on a long-term cooperation. Before HTC completely focused on Android, the company had already devices with Windows Mobile operating system and later also some Windows Phone smartphones manufactured. In recent years, however, there were no official plans to cooperate in the mobile sector.

Microsoft wants HTC hardware with Windows System

Microsoft wants this change apparently, if you believe the sources compiled by Bloomberg. Although this wish to remain anonymous, but report that the head of Microsoft’s operating system unit HTC have responded to the opportunity to bring Microsoft’s own system for the user option on the HTC devices. It was also discussed to reduce the license fees for the use of Windows Phone for HTC devices on their own or withdraw. Exact details regarding the technical implementation (two systems on a device or option when buying) give it up to date yet, because it was in preliminary talks and had not made a decision on the implementation of this project. Next week will be held further talks.

The idea is not new

It’s not the first time that such rumors arise. In June this year Neowin suspected that HTC is working on a One-like device with Windows Phone. This should be announced in the fall and brought the end of the year on the market. As it turns out, this rumor was probably wrong, because the cooperation between Microsoft and HTC put up in its infancy, if it occurs at all.

HTC could well have interest in bringing Microsoft software cheap on their own hardware. It could be used to establish itself alongside Nokia in an alternative market without fear particularly large additional development costs in hardware and licensing. Microsoft, however, would like to expand with Windows Phone and Nokia come off the exclusivity of his system. HTC has already experience with Windows Phone, and produces high-quality devices, which makes the company attractive.

look

time if we can buy new HTC phones with Windows Phone soon. Personally, I suspect that there will be no device with a dual-boot option, so with Android and Windows Phone on a device. Although such a smartphone may be interesting for power users and hobbyists, to the mass market, there are no customers for it. Exciting would be the ability to flash a official tool the Android version to a Windows Phone version. But of course that all future music.

There must be something to do with HTC, because the numbers are not good. Could such a cooperation halt the downward trend?
