other respects, the One Max in many parts of the One – with the small but subtle difference that it has no closed unibody more. How does the giant has beaten the test and whether it can provide the phablet segment for similar furore, we have clarified in the test.
First impression, optics, hardware
If you get used to a current high-end flagship with 5 inches, the One Max acts nonetheless huge. And, although actually only a 5.9-inch display is installed. Thus, it is still a bit larger than that of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but lags behind the diagonal of 6.44 inches of Sony Xperia Z Ultra. Despite the “only” 0.2-inch larger displays than with direct competitors score 3 HTC One Max puts in length and depth clearly: 164.5 to 151.2 mm and 10.3 to 8.3 mm in direct comparison. The above-average increase in length is of course by the characteristic of the One series stereo speakers on the front conditionally (“Boom Sound”).
The complete unit is reminiscent of the design language comes to the One Mini (for test) than the actual one. This is not meant negatively, could we workmanship, appearance and feel quite convince the One Mini in the fields. Unfortunately, that is not quite so well at the One Max. It starts at the front with a slightly protruding aluminum element (see photo above) and ends on the back with a removable tray though, but differ significantly from the gaps of a “good” processing. The HTC is much better managed with the previous models. Bearing in mind that the removable rear only granted access to SIM and microSD slot, the manufacturer would have better used a plug-in models like One Mini.
The rest of the hardware, however, is close to the “original” one. FullHD resolution, Snapdragon 600 quad-core, each with 1.7 GHz, 2GB RAM, LTE (in this case, quad-band instead of the One Triband), 16 or 32 GB of internal memory, the same cameras, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0 and a IR Blaster and NFC complete the device. The largest differences for One: A fingerprint reader on the back and a microSD card slot with which the phablet by up to 64 GB of memory can be expanded. The 3300 mAh battery significantly grown (One: 2300 mAh) has been adjusted to reflect the larger display area. Higher terms are therefore probably hardly to be expected.
is unfortunate that HTC, the hardware is not on the current generation (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, 3 GB RAM, microUSB 3.0) has raised. To meet the competition with a more expensive device with poorer hardware, is just the price comparison does not necessarily promote sales.
feel and comfort
The feel is due to the high quality materials, the rounded back and sloped, rotating plastic edges at a high level. The One Max is a real flatterer despite its size. At least if your hands are because large enough to enclose the phablet fixed. With 164.5 x 82.5 x 10.3 mm, the unit may not necessarily be described as handy, said for a current flagship quite “chubby” Profile of ergonomics is more beneficial than it hurts.
Really unergonomic is the new feature of the HTC One Max The fingerprint reader is attached to the back of the camera, so you have these sensing blind. Login so can ever be a test of patience, since the fingers are not only exposed, but must be dragged over it. In addition, one has his finger on the lens more often than one would like. Apple has the much better resolved with the iPhone 5s, as well as his time with the Motorola Atrix.
weight and size speak – in relative terms – for the One Max with 70% utilization of the front of it, in spite of the great speaker faces the nose pretty far forward, although no one can use a 5.9-inch cars with one hand easily . The 1.55 g / cm ³ – which is also due to the speaker as well as areas of greater thickness, among others – in the upper midfield. And in everyday life, the weight drops from 217 g by the sheer size of the phablets not adversely affect.
