HTC: That’s why we wait so long for our updates
It may hurt to be an Android user. As soon as we find out in the press that there is for example an update for our Galaxy S3 Android 4.3, arises when reading the article, a disillusionment when our device with wireless carrier branding still have to wait a bit. Why manufacturers do not simply distribute an update to all owners of a particular smartphone and the steps of development at Google are passed through to delivery to customers, HTC shows a handsome infographic.
As through many steps it depends on what a smartphone we own. Devices that are sold in a Google Play Edition, get the fastest update. Nevertheless, an update for such a smart phone goes through at least eight steps, until it arrives at our unit. For a device without branding a wireless service provider there are nine steps. With branding, the number increases even at twelve.
HTC explains why smartphones get with branding so late updates
The Taiwanese manufacturer and its competitors must check with any mobile phone provider, what changes they make and what apps and services must be able to run under the new version. Then only the changes are made, tested and submitted to the seller for inspection. Only after the unit goes into the regular test and Zertifikationsphase.
So who quickly wants to update to the latest version of Android, which should not relate directly to its carrier its smartphones. The fastest way for devices from the Google Play Edition. A detailed insight into the process gives you the below infographic from HTC.
