HTC Desire Review 500 - mobiFlip.de

htc desire 500 header

The line of HTC Desire with a story: The original Desire only has led many users to Android, was loved by many and has left positive memories for their owners to this day. Many came only through the first representatives of the Desire line to Android (myself included on the HTC Desire HD).

Had the HTC Desire-line consistently continued, they would have definitely here to build a great brand – something for which they what they have long sought desperately and finally apparently found in the One series. But what came after the Desire HD, not the speech was simply worth it. In most cases, it was not successful in the total package smartphone, the maximum of the average middle-class area covering more or less.

Desire 500 joins seamlessly here, nonetheless HTC want to go back a little dare attack with the Desire series. I said it already in my first impression: A quad-core processor in a handy 4.3 “format for under 300 euros ensures attention at first for the targeted clientele. More interesting is the device for a test, because here the question naturally arises whether the device delivers what it promises first. Here, the buyer gets a discount and still (enough) smartphone-performance at a low price

Specification

As I said, the specs make a good first impression. At second glance, it is namely in the first shock that this “only” 200 with a Snapdragon 1.2 GHz per core works, but still is ok, if you look at the price. So it is also with the rest of the technical specifications: For the price, the whole thing is quite in order. Solely the very tightly dimensioned internal memory raises doubts as three UK already be occupied by the system. But we’ll get to that later.

  • hardware and processing

    DSC_0231

The device feels pretty good for the price, and the polycarbonate is the whole in every way, although it does not reach the processing of the Lumia smartphones from Nokia. However, the design is more than successful, the volume control looks as really great and becomes the design element.

less like me, however, that the polycarbonate body was kept in the glossy look. On the one hand, the device feels relatively slippery, on the other fingerprints, dirt and grease stains are attracted like a magnet. The power button is also not too pleasant. The fact is very flat in the housing, making it more difficult to press the button. HTC certainly wanted to avoid protruding elements in this design, but the Kosten-/Nutzenrechnung is not for me. It bugs me too much in some cases even having to look for commands, where the button is now accurate.

All in all, I was convinced but largely in relation to the price the hardware. For the price of the offered hardware is perfectly fine

    display

    DSC_0264

The LC display of the Desire makes a total of 500 an appealing figure. Surely it is not the strongest and in a direct comparison with an HTC One of course you will notice the difference – that in itself is but fine nonetheless. Colors feel accurately reproduced on the black level for an LCD is very handsome and also different viewing angles provide here not a problem

Ultimately, you have to at a smartphone like this, it will be aware of what kind of users are mainly intended – those who come into question here want a cheap device with which one can stand it anyway. Since then no longer pay attention to the screen – it has to be cheap .

From these points one may then expect no miracles in this world price, somewhere must be saved. The compromise that was passed here is an overall balanced and appealing. Perhaps a qHD resolution would have been there and would have been quite good the display, but also so that’s okay.

    software

    DSC_0239

500 HTC Desire runs Android 4.1.2 with Sense UI 5.0 on top of it. Anyone who has ever used a smartphone with Android 4.2, will miss a few functions. Especially the wiping gesture can be expanded with a finger to the notifications, I lacked. Except for minor missing features I personally had no problems with it, to use an older version of Android.

Above all, Sense UI 5.0 seems to produce some problems. Although HTC has clearly purifies your own interface compared to previous versions, but there are still some significant problems surface when it comes to non-potent hardware used. It takes e.g. several seconds to open an app that you want to start a notification on the lockscreen. Also lacking Quick toggle for power control in the notification bar and the animation while wiping a notification looks ugly and not “smooth” out.

is interesting in this respect also the layout of the capacitive buttons. There is no menu or multitasking button. The latter is hidden behind a double-tap on the home button. HTC reasoned that the One so that no one would simply use the multitasking, but that is also no use if you hide this function like this.

Mulitasking menu but then HTC has hinbekommen very appealing. One sees nine apps simultaneously with small preview. Which can then be easily removed by wiping gesture above. The layout is especially helpful for clarity within the menu and some might predict better than Google’s solution in Stock Android.

annoying I find the default layout in the App Drawer. THe come with standard 3 x 4, but fortunately can be changed to 4 x 5, which I recommend, but otherwise very much space is wasted.

Going back to the lockscreen: Here, you can put four apps for quick start. Also, you have the choice of four templates, indicating, for example, images or calendar events. In the latter memories can also be rejected on the lockscreen, which is quite useful. However, this lockscreen notifications can not remove.

Eye jumps of course feed directly flashing, the news reader on the home screen. To do this you select when ordering from various sources, the news are displayed there. This is visually very pretty successful, but every once in hakelt Desire 500 In the end, I blink Feed hardly used – I would recommend that you place flashing feed the left of the default home screen. So you have flash feed from the viewing area, but it can use if you really want times.

    battery power and performance

    DSC_0242

item “Battery Power” was for me in advance a very interesting, because you would think that a quad-core CPU consumes more power than a dual core. Overall, I am satisfied with the battery performance. I have always been good about working and I have often used the device for Gmail, social stuff, Evernote, dos, etc., and just as often listened to music via Rdio. In my use, the battery was at the end of the day still a good third of battery charge remaining. WiFi in the Desire has 500 naturally somewhat longer made – two to three days are then quite well in it

    .

also interesting is the performance. Quad-core CPUs like to keep as the panacea of ??all performance problems here, although Android with the four CPU cores can not completely avoid, but that’s another story. The performance at 500 Desire is certainly a fluctuating. Time it goes well, sometimes you can clearly see that it is slower to navigate through the system. Apps need flashy until they are loaded, which eventually eats away at the nerves. Rdio needs e.g. quite four to five seconds before the app is loaded after first opening.

Generally everything takes a bit longer than, say, the Nexus 4, which is not surprising in itself, but still remains negative hang. Who has not at high-end device at home and never used one, will not know the difference in circumstances and the Desire is 500 then find in order. Often it runs so smoothly, it’s just all around a slowly ticking, without appearing choppy (at least most of the time).

    camera

    DSC_0234

The camera delivers remarkably good results. The quality of the photos has now and then a little colorless in good lighting, but the focus is always perfect. But most of all I was impressed by the night shots: Striking color artifacts I could not find photos here are sufficiently sharp and the scenes are well captured. Furthermore, one can still say that the camera software creates very quick photo shoot. While many photos in one quick go apparently at the expense of sharpness, but it’s good to know that the fast snapshot and works in principle with this smartphone is far from impossible.

Surely there is room for improvement (night shots are generally always pretty dark), but simply must here be aware that the Desire 500 is a mid-range model without overly advertised camera skills. Taking this into account, the photo quality is quite good, which I’m also a bit surprised far.

    Miscellaneous

Desire 500 also comes once more, therefore, with support for Beats Audio. While I’m not a fan of the mode, which simply maximizes only the low tones, I must say that the sound with Beats Audio enabled a lot better. The reason for this is less that beats audio makes anything sensational, but rather the sometimes extremely tinny and bass loose sound coming from the headphone jack without Beats Audio. Beats Audio brings audio output to a level about how I’m used to from other smartphones.

As indicated above, the low internal memory of the main problems is the Desire 500 Four GB are available with this unit, but what about three GB is already taken for the system to complete. Thus, one merely has a GB of internal memory.

    Fortunately, HTC

allows the storage of apps on the micro SD card. But that is not possible with any application, most still remain some data in the internal memory. As users of streaming services has been obtained with the use of external storage fortunately no problems as Rdio and Spotify allow the storage of music to external storage. Nevertheless, sooner or later one has simply problems installing and updating apps. For me this occurred after only two weeks. You have to be strong here actually restrict what I do not just welcome.

    Conclusion

    DSC_0257

Overall, the HTC Desire 500 sets a useful device for the price and the overall package is acceptable in many parts. However, one must not be blinded by the fact that here hinwerkelt a quad-core processor itself – the loading times are relatively long and, in general, the system does not feel excessively on fast. In my opinion, a useful dual-core processor would have been definitely better than the rather measly Snapdragon 200

Considering this when purchasing the device, you can not go wrong really. The design has become very pretty, the smooth polycarbonate body still acceptable (although not great), the camera surprisingly good and the display does not generate eye cancer . The Sense UI still has a long way to go, but has become noticeably better compared to older versions.

    Nevertheless

: The Desire line will probably be no big boost too well this device. As I said, the design catches the eye and the whole package is right – but on that special “something” is missing. This is a shame and I would love to see that the Desire-branding is popular again, but this device is in my opinion not be responsible.
