Nokia has two patents successfully defended before the U.S. Trade Commission. Now HTC is threatening to ban the sale of its smartphones in the U.S., including the HTC one.

HTC may possibly no longer sell from spring 2014 in the United States have one flagship smartphone. Judge Thomas Pender of the U.S. Trade Commission ITC ruled that HTC infringed two U.S. patents that have been awarded Nokia. Nokia will probably reach so that HTC is the licensed patents.
In its judgment Pender judges confirmed that HTC, U.S. Patents 7,415,247 and 6,393,260 unauthorized uses in its smartphones, including the HTC One and HTC One Mini. The two patents describe once error correction for radio signals and a method for using multiple frequencies. Both do not fall under FRAND (Fair, Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory), an unofficial agreement whereby essential patents must be licensed at reasonable prices. However, the ITC judge threw out a third patent. Nokia had originally accused HTC of infringing nine patents, of which only three remained in the process.

Already in April 2013 Nokia Vice Timo Ihamuotila had declared that Nokia wants to continue strengthening its intellectual property into money. Around 500 million U.S. dollars was the Finnish company in 2013 by taking patent licensing.
Meanwhile, Nokia has sold its mobile phone business to Microsoft. The acquisition is expected to close in early 2014. It also numerous design patents go to Microsoft. Its function patents but Nokia wants to keep.
HTC went his hand against Nokia for its patents in court. Nokia is said to have illegally used power-saving features in its Windows Phone smartphones, the Lumia series.
