BlackBerry HTC Appoints Former Manager to head the appliance business - ZDNet.de

Blackberry has the former HTC appointed manager Ron Louks president. In this position he is responsible for the equipment business and the Emerging Solutions immediately, reporting directly to CEO John Chen.

Louks changes from the open source provider OpenNMS Group on BlackBerry, where he most recently served as Chief Executive Officer. Previously, he was Chief Strategy Officer at HTC America and Chief Technology Officer, Sony Ericsson.

“I am looking forward to another outstanding addition to the leadership team of BlackBerry,” CEO John Chen said. “I am convinced that Ron has the knowledge and experience that will take effect immediately on BlackBerry and our customers worldwide.”

Chen According to Louks to worry about the long-term product development including software, hardware and design. “Much of his time is spent with Ron customers, providers and partners,” added Chen. “On our way back to profitability, nothing is more important than keeping close contact to our customers and to develop safe products and to deliver that exceed their expectations.”

Just before Christmas, BlackBerry had reported a drop in sales of 56 percent to 1.2 billion dollars. The number of smartphone sales shrank to 1.9 million units. Due to a further depreciation in the value of inventories, the results for the third fiscal quarter reported a GAAP loss of 4.4 billion dollars.
