HTC One Max in the test: Handling: core design changes - ABC Online

One Max is a whopper, because you have to beat around the bush not even beat around the bush: For dimensions of 83 x 165 and a thickness from 6.0 to 10.6 millimeters, the interested party must not aspire to a decent disappearance make up about in your pocket. Especially since the HTC tight weighs 221 grams – 217 grams of the official who called the manufacturer, can not be confirmed. And even if the rear arches as well as the One, the Max is determined by the width just under 15 millimeters more abundant but much less ergonomically in the hand. Contemporaries with small hands should even advance in the shop once “probe wear” if they can live a longer phone to the ear with this schnitzel. But at a pinch there are also Bluetooth headsets …

Less valent

the look has changed a bit compared to the original one: The back looks exactly the same, even if they can be removed in chapter facilities now like this. But instead of the polished chrome frame at the front and rear can be found at the Max, a plastic bar that far on front and back projects a little over. So similar to the Mini One. Therefore, the Max quite a bit less valent acts as the One, and the design belonged to with its outstanding features. However, the processing is top notch: The battery cover will not budge without wobbling or creaking. On the other hand, it proved in the test as not easy, because the battery cover to close it entirely: Since you have already completely press down to even quite sure to close the last gaps. A trifle.

Better accessible

like most about the relocation of the Ein-/Aus-/Standby-Tasters, who now sits in the middle of the right edge rather than in the side of the head. In this way, the user has to wake up the phone from standby mode, do not grip around the device every time: If the right-handed here rests the thumb anyway, the smartphone is in his left hand, the index finger is good for the course. However, the infrared transmitter remained in the side of the head, so that Max can be used via the pre-installed app “TV” as a remote control for TV, Home Cinema & Co..

icons too dark

negative side were the two buttons below the touch screen for “Back” and “Home” on: The symbols themselves are thinner than on the One and also significantly worse illuminated. An option with which the illumination could adjust manually, is missing. And so it may well happen that the icons are bad not to recognize up depending on ambient light. However, that’s no big deal, because probably know yourself Android novices within one to also memorize the function where sitting, especially in between still flaunts the factory functionless “HTC” logo. Optimal is still not.

Blink Feed optional

serves as the operating system Android 4.3, about the HTC as usual its surface “Sense” specifies that currently is version 5.5 and now also stands for the One. This brings in comparison to the previous surface of the One above all a change: The “Blink Feed”, HTC’s in-house news reader, can now completely disable – so far you could push it up to the left of the visible range. Now there are in the overview of the home screens, in which you enter by merging two fingers, a corresponding button. However, this is not an ad hoc intuitive: Is Blink Feed inactive, it displays “Blink feed from”, ie the current state, not the function of the button. The logic behind this is the latest clear when you press the button: The status “Blink Feed a” the adjacent icon turns blue, otherwise it is white. Otherwise, nothing has changed in the operation, which is why we refer for details on the test of the HTC one.
