Report: HTC smartphones builds for Amazon - Heise Newsticker

The online retailer Amazon is, according to a media report before entering the smartphone business. The company is developing together with the Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, a number of smartphones, the British daily Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the events. In one of the three devices, the development was already far advanced, but no decision had been killed, if or when the smartphone hits the market.

For months, there are always rumors that Amazon is working on a smartphone. So far the company has always denied this. The last round had made at the IFA in Berlin, the mail order company would give away even a smartphone. Also, this message has rejected Amazon: This year there will be not a smartphone, and then if one should come, it will not be free. With the e-book reader Kindle and the Amazon Kindle Fire Android tablet is already successful as a hardware provider. (VBR)
